The Berkeley
The Berkeley comes in homage to David Hockney's 1972 painting;
Portrait of an Artist (pool with Two Figures) , and my mistakenly thinking it was from the Bigger Splash series. Hockney having made those paintings while he was teaching at Berkeley University in California. And my feeling that the painting felt like California, led me to naming this beautiful line of light corduroy and needle-cord sports jackets after that great University and by association Hockey's painting. After realising that I was mistaken and looking at the marvellous garments I decided to keep the name, as I do think they some how reflect the mood and feeling of Hockney's brilliant Californian paintings from around that time.
Kennerly Woolfe
By calling this Berkeley sports jacket the Kennerly Wolfe , we're giving a nod to Thomas Kennerly Wolfe, the author of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (1968)and progenitor of Gonzo Journalism. Known for wearing a white suit, he claimed that he bought his first one planning to wear it in the summer. He found that it was too heavy for summer so he wore it in winter, which created a sensation. He's quoted as saying, "I found that it really irritated people - I had hit upon this harmless form of aggression". Now I'm suggesting that if people are so easily irritated, then maybe the (10.oz canvas), Kennerly Woolfe, being a sports Jacket could be the antidote.
PS. He also said, "Clothing is a wonderful doorway that most easily leads you to the heart of an individual; it’s the way they reveal themselves.
