The Berkeley

The Berkeley comes in homage to David Hockney's 1972 painting;

Portrait of an Artist (pool with Two Figures) , and my mistakenly thinking it was from the Bigger Splash series. Hockney having made those paintings while he was teaching at Berkeley University in California. And my feeling that the painting felt like California, led me to naming this beautiful line of light corduroy and needle-cord sports jackets after that great University and by association Hockey's painting. After realising that I was mistaken and looking at the marvellous garments I decided to keep the name, as I do think they some how reflect the mood and feeling of Hockney's brilliant Californian paintings from around that time.

Whilst saying all that, I thought no formal colour could truly describe the intensity of this little number. So it just had to be the seductive glow of my mother's finger nails that came from that fabulous 1950s and 60s nail polish.
